The 3x Liams Column: The three Liam’s column is written by Liam Hawkins, Liam Kelly, and Liam Gleason.  It is written and designed to convey the intellectual and in-depth conversations regularly discussed by the Liams in the hallways, in the classroom, and beyond.  We will always work tirelessly to bring forth well-thought out debate and conversation over the most pressing questions and topics of this day and age.  There may not always be a winner in these scholarly discussions, but we can assure you that whichever individual you disagree with most, that Liam is likely Liam Kelly.  Which Liam is which? We’ll let you, the reader, decide.

For today’s cerebral and high-browed conversation, we tackle the pressing and ever concerning issue: Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Liam #1

The hot dog is not something we can just talk about like it’s any other object. It has rights; it matters just like any other food. Whether it’s a sandwich or a wrap does not matter in the slightest. The only thing that matters with the hotdog is whether or not you are not one of the abhorrent individuals who enjoys it with ketchup. Those are vile individuals.

The Other Liam

Typical Liam #1, never actually answering the question at hand. A hot dog is clearly not a sandwich. Dictionary.com defines a sandwich as “two or more slices of bread or the like with a layer of meat, fish, cheese, etc., between each pair.” A hot dog is one piece of bread with something modestly resembling meat in between it. It is not two pieces, as defined by the dictionary. So clearly, it is not a sandwich. You may argue that even though the pieces are not separate, the hot dog is still a sandwich because it is still food between two pieces of bread. However, it is for this very reason that a hot dog is not a sandwich. One could easily argue that a hamburger is a sandwich since it is clearly a piece of meat between two pieces of bread. The two pieces of bread is what makes the sandwich the sandwich. It is the defining characteristic. Since a hot dog technically only uses one piece of bread, i, cannot be considered a sandwich.

The Liam whose opinion does not really matter but we included him anyways, because he wanted a participation trophy
Why is this even a thing? I seriously thought we were going to be debating legitimate topics.  What happened to that? We didn’t even make it one article before getting side-tracked! It doesn’t matter whether a hot dog is a sandwich or not. It is all just food. Good food that we all like to eat. This is a ridiculous debate and should not even be a thing! There are so many more important things going on in the world and this is what we are dealing with?!  Somebody please help these two gain some perspective and a proper set of priorities for the world!
